"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells". Dr Seuss
I work from a studio in my garden in rural Northumberland (UK).
Of all the art forms, literature is my favourite, and calligraphy is a beautiful mode of expression to honour words. It is deeply personal having them hand-written, designing and arranging text which enhances their importance both to giver and recipient. Printing out those same words on a computer is quicker and cheaper, but incomparable to the thought, effort and versatility of calligraphy. Words carry emotion and significance, and deserve to be treated with all the imagination and skill that go into creating a painting, a sculpture, or a piece of music.
I have a degree in Design, am a Fellow of the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society, and an Accredited Calligraphy Tutor. I'm also a member of Coquetdale Arts Centre, Heritage Crafts, and the Society of Northumbrian Scribes.
